Urges him to give a nod for setting up a 2G ethanol refinery in the state

Raipur 24 September 2022

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has urged Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah to grant approval for a commercial and a demonstration project through oil marketing companies for the production of ethanol in the state from surplus paddy. Besides, he has also requested to give a nod for the establishment of a 2G ethanol refinery.

In his letter addressed to Shri Shah, Chief Minister gave reference to the meeting of the central region of the Inter-State Council held on August 22, 2022. Shri Baghel said that “in the said meeting I have requested setting up refinery by Oil Marketing Company of Government of India under Pradhan Mantri JI-VAN (Jaiv Indhan – Vatavaran Anukool Fasal Awashesh Nivaran) Yojana in the state for bioethanol production from lignocellulosic biomass for disposal of crop residues.”

He added that the estimated annual production of crops especially paddy in Chhattisgarh is 137 lakh MT (Kharif marketing year 2022-23). All favorable conditions are available in the state for setting up lignocellulosic biorefinery.

Chief Minister further stated in the letter that the ‘BaStrategic Partnership’ can be adopted by the state government’s urban bodies and Gauthan Samitis to provide lignocellulosic biomass through backward linkage. The targets set for the fulfillment of the objectives of the scheme will help in reducing environmental pollution caused by the burning of agricultural residues and solid waste management in urban areas.

Chief Minister Shri Bhupesh Baghel has asked Shri Amit Shah to take necessary action for setting up a 2G ethanol refinery in the state while granting approval for a commercial and a demonstration project through oil marketing companies for ethanol production in the state from surplus paddy.
