There was a long time demand for a multi-purpose institution like Kala Kendra, and this demand has been fulfilled today. Based on the action plan prepared by District administration, the ‘Kala Kendra’ has been established at Tehsil Chowk of the city at a cost of Rs. 45 lakh 93 thousand. Funds for this project were sanctioned under DMF. In his address to the inaugural programme, Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel congratulated people of the district and expressed hope that this art center will give a new direction to the development of art and provide a better platform to the youngsters. The coordinator of Kala Kendra informed that relevant courses based on various disciplines of art will be conducted in this art center.

With an aim to revive the local folk culture and traditions, the trainees would be provided training in folk music. Besides, classes of Mehndi, Drawing, Clay Art and Painting will be conducted as vocational courses with the aim of nurturing non-academic and business oriented talents in the children. Similarly, under the personality development curriculum, spoken English will be taught to the students. Also, classes for guitar playing, zumba, all types of yoga, cooking, drum beating, keyboard playing will also be conducted. Kala Kendra will have a studio for young people interested in music, classes of Indian dance forms such as Bharat Natyam, along with Western Salsa, Hip Hop and Bollywood dance styles will be held. Moreover, personality development classes will also be conducted. Officials concerned have informed that other courses will also be included in future, based on the contemporary demands.
