Raipur: International Millets Year 2023: Awareness campaigns will be run to educate Common people about the benefits of Millets

A special reading session on the utility of millets to happen on January 26 in all gram sabhas. Common people will be made aware about millets through food festival seminars

The year 2023 is being celebrated by the United Nations as the International Year of Millets. Millets are also a part of the traditional staple diet of the people of Chhattisgarh. Keeping in view the possibility of production from millets in the state, the Millets Mission is being run to promote this superfood. An action plan has been prepared by the Government of India to encourage millets from January to December in the year 2023. To educate people about the nutritional and health benefits related to millets, farmers and common people will be made aware of millets through food festivals, fairs and seminars and other awareness programs, for which an action plan has been prepared. A special reading will also be held in all the gram sabhas of the state on ‘Importance of nutritious small grains in the daily diet’ on coming 26th January. A special format has also been prepared for this.

  Agriculture Production Commissioner Dr. Kamal Preet Singh has written a letter in this regard to the collectors of all the districts of the state. Along with this, a monthly action plan has also been created and given. Under this, a seminar will be organized on 7th, 14th, 21st and 28th of January for high and higher secondary school children on the usefulness of millets. In this program, the officers of Agriculture Department and Krishi Vigyan Kendra will give their speech educating people about the benefits of millets. Posters, hoardings etc. In this series, there will be a training program for about 550 farmers on post harvest management of millets in all 22 Krishi Vigyan Kendras of Chhattisgarh from January 13 to 30. On January 20, especially in Bastar and on January 28, activities based on millets such as fair, food festival etc. will be organized at Rajnandgaon district level.
