Chhattisgarh is a very prosperous state and has immense potential for tourism. In addition to the abundance of forest and mineral wealth, Chhattisgarh is also rich in terms of art, culture and tourist places. Under the guidance of Chief Minister Mr. Bhupesh Baghel and under the leadership of Chhattisgarh Tourism Minister Mr. Tamradhwaj Sahu, Chhattisgarh Tourism Board is making every possible effort at national and international level to accelerate the development of tourism in the state. State government’s efforts and initiatives have led to significant increase in the number of tourists to Chhattisgarh, even after recovering from the pandemic. In year 2021, 1 crore 15 lakh 32 thousand tourists, including Indian and foreign, have visited Chhattisgarh.
During this global crisis of COVID-19, economy of India as well as that of the entire world was adversely affected. And tourism being an important part of any economy, it was affected by the pandemic as well. But despite all the challenges, Chhattisgarh government has ensured that this economic slowdown does not affect the pace of development. In the same sequence, Chhattisgarh’s tourism policy 2020 was formulated. This policy is focused on creating employment opportunities for localites in tourism sector, rural tourism development, to connect the local people with the tourism industry under the guide training program. Homestays are also being developed so as to provide the tourists an opportunity to experience local lifestyle and food of rural areas and tribal communities. In the first phase of the state government’s ambitious scheme Ram Van Gaman tourism circuit , development work has been started in nine identified locations related to Lord Ram’s exile period in Chhattisgarh, Chandkhuri and Janjgir’s Shivrinarayan.
Around 138 locations in Chhattisgarh have been marked as tourist destinations. And in these locations, hotels, motels, resorts and restaurants with the best facilities of food and accommodation in are being developed. especially in tribal areas. Located in the heart of India, in the north of the state of Chhattisgarh is the highest part of Satpura hills, in the middle is the plains of the Mahanadi and its tributaries and to its south lies the wide plateau of Bastar. Chhattisgarh is full of ancient monuments, rare wild animals, carved temples, Buddhist sites, palaces, waterfalls, caves and rock paintings. It has tourist places of historical, archaeological, religious significance and natural beauty.
Besides the national parks and wildlife sanctuaries, Chhattisgarh has glorious folk culture. Kutumsar Cave and Kanger Valley, National Park, Chitrakote Falls are important tourist places in Bastar region, which are a major center of attraction for the tourists. Chhattisgarh Tourism Board has established Tourism Information Center in 11 places of the state, in addition to New Delhi, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, to make the information regarding the tourist places of Chhattisgarh and to provide the facility of reservation under individual and tour packages for tourist places.
